Public Holidays of Luxembourg and Neighboring Countries

Ever make a journey across the border to enjoy a meal or go shopping, only to find everything was closed because of a public holiday you didn't know about?  Or do you ever wonder if stores are open somewhere else when they are closed here?  To help sort out these questions, here is a chart showing all the public holidays in Luxembourg and neighboring areas.  Note that even when stores and businesses are closed, restaurants may still be open (but not always).  Call ahead to be sure.  To see all the specific public holiday dates for the current year, visit the web site for the country's national tourist office, or go to World Travel Guide at www.worldtravelguide.net (link to Country Guides). 

  *A note about Germany.  There are national holidays (N) which apply to all of Germany and some regional holidays, mainly religious, which apply only in certain areas.  The public holidays listed here include national holidays and only those regional holidays that apply to the Rhineland area (R), which includes Trier.
